Week 8 (The arrow)
“An
arrow can only be released by first pulling it back. When life pulls you back,
it simply means you’re launching into something amazing.” This quote spoke to
the team this week. The team encountered a significant setback due to microbial
contamination of the treated microplastics. I guess it’s a pullback to be launched
to a great finding. If things went as planned, this week’s experiment was to
co-incubate each treated microplastics with each Pseudomonas species inside
sterile test tubes. Once, co-incubated, we will start our bio-degradation
analysis in four-time frames, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days. After multiple metabolic tests, It’s now safe
to say that the pink contaminant that was in our Pseudomonas bacteria was Serratia
marcescens.

WOW! What an amazing finding. After all those questions we all had and mysteries all semester in the fall of 2017 we finally cracked the code ( well you did). What procedure did you use to identify? It is good to say that we can put this behind us and focus on what is next which is the next step of your procedure!
ReplyDeleteHey Ibrahim, I’m sorry to hear that your samples were contaminated with Serratia Marcescens. However, I agree with your quote and you just have to keep moving forward! Now that you have identified the contaminate, will there be a change in procedure to prevent this from happening or will anything be done differently?
